Ready to club to more of your favourite Kpop tunes? Well, Klub Party will bring the house down! To celebrate their first anniversary, Klub Party organised by Colored Rhythms, invited Oneway to party with the fans!
Speaking to the media for the first time in Singapore, Oneway tells us more about themselves.
Q: How was Oneway formed?
Sky: I was studying in Australia and I met Peter there in middle school. Then I moved to LA and I met Chance in high school. And then, we all moved back to Korea separately and we met. I introduced Chance to Peter and we’re like Let’s make a group!
Q: How would you describe each other in a sentence?
Chance: Personality + Taste + Character + Everything … Random! We are so random!
All: People don’t understand us!
Chance: But that’s in one word. Hmm … one sentence?
Sky: We are random!
Chance: One sentence: Oneway Onesound!
Q: What’s the meaning of Oneway?
A: It means 3. And music of course. It’s not just one genre but a Oneway sound. It also shows our one direction in life, even if we’re different origins, we have one vision.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from when producing songs?
A: From our everyday lives! We try to make our songs to symbolise something and make it meaningful. Like for Magic, we wanted to cast a spell on you! Or for Rainy Days, it could be a break up song! It comes from whatever that we’ve been through. Eating or anything!
Q: Who are your music influences?
Chance: The genres we like are the same actually. For me it’s D’Angelo and for writers, Babyface and Neyo.
Sky: It’s weird because I started out doing classical music so my top influence would be Mozart. And then I got into hiphop , a totally different direction and I listened to many other producers like Pharrell and Timbaland
Peter: For me in terms of songwriting, it’s Musiq Soulchild, the way he expresses his everyday life through his songs. And for stage presence, I have to go with Michael Jackson, I mean who hasn’t been influenced by Michael Jackson!
Chance: And as a group, we listen to other groups. Groups in Korea such as Epik High, Drunker Tiger, Dynamic Duo. They’re real musicians, who stay true within music and that’s what we’re trying to do.
Q: What song would your introduce to someone who wants to know about Oneway?
A: We’ve a song on our first EP, we made a sequel. It kinda talks about random stuff but the whole music style is us! It’s called U Drag. And in our latest album, we’ve a song called New Drag. So if you guys wanna know about us, you should definitely listen to these 2 songs.
It goes away from the mainstream Kpop style and that’s our style! Raw acoustic oneway sound!
Q: Who are some of the other artiste you want to work with?
Peter: I like working with female artistes! I’ve always liked her since her debut, her name is IU and she’s a very good musician and very talented.
Chance: My respect to Brown Eyed Soul! We would like to work with them! Compared to them, we’re like babies, we’re just growing up. They’ve been through a longer and harder time in the music industry, and we would like to follow their tracks.
Sky: For me, because I’m a rapper so I would say Dynamic Duo. In my personal opinion, I think they’re the best rappers in Korea!
Q: Tell us more about your collaboration with 2PM’s Junsu.
Sky: I used to train in JYP Entertainment and I met Junsu there. I left JYPE but we still kept our friendship and it has been 5 years now. We talk about music, hang around and chill out. He’s a great vocalist!
Chance: We’ve never said this before actually! We recorded Rainy Days and Junsu had a big interest in it. He really liked the song. So at the last minute, we said hey! We need your vocals and got him into the recording studio!
Q: What have you guys heard about Singapore before coming over?
Peter: It’s my 3rd time here in Singapore and the first time as a group.
All: We heard that there’s awesome food and it’s hot and clean! No trash on the floor! Probably because of the strict laws over here.
Q: What kind of experience are you guys hoping for in Singapore?
Chance: I think as long as we see our fans, them welcoming us, that’s the best experience! That stuns me the most! We just wanna have fun and leave a good impression as musicians.
Oneway kick started the party with their song One Way, hyping the crowd up! They went on to perform Wrong Number, Rainy Days and Magic. It was the first time Oneway performed Rainy Days on stage and it sure got the atmosphere up!
After the crowd’s enthusiastic screams for an encore, Oneway got back on stage, performing B.O.B’s Nothin’ On You! They went down into the crowd and they started groovin’ along with them to Far East Movement’s Like A G6!
